Carol Atwood is a successful entrepreneur who is actively involved in creating, investing in, and participating in socially focused ventures. She is a recipient of many awards, including “NYC Entrepreneur of the Year” award, which was sponsored by NASDAQ, Kaufmann Foundation, and Ernst and Young. Ms. Atwood formerly owned and operated TMG, an international marketing company that developed programs for Fortune 500 companies. In 1997, TMG was named Company of the Year by the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies and ranked among the top 100 women-owned businesses by Working Woman magazine, placing between Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey. In addition to these roles, Carol is also committed to many non profit and socially minded organizations, serving as board member, advisor, or committee head of many of these organizations. Ms. Atwood is on the steering committee of the Institute for Responsible Investment. IRI is lead by the chief investment officer of Domini Investments, Steve Lydenberg. The center is housed at Boston College and its purpose is to mainstream the concepts underlying socially responsible investment and corporate social responsibility She is board member and co-chair of the sustainability committee for Social Venture Network (SVN), a nonprofit network committed to building a just and sustainable world through business. Carol is also a board member of IW Financial, a company that offers web based applications that empower advisors and money managers to quickly identify the investments that best meet their clients' specific financial and corporate practices criteria such as board diversity, governance and environmental issues. Ms. Atwood is on the advisory board of CREO. The mission of the Center for Responsible Equity Ownership (“CREO”) is to strengthen institutional fiduciary obligation by integrating long-term financial prosperity with the common good, thus strengthening both capital markets and public life. Carol is on the advisory board of CSR Wire, the leading source of corporate responsibility and sustainability press releases, reports and news. Member companies include AOL, GM and Nike. She is also a member and previously served on the board of Social Venture Partners, an international organization of philanthropy which was the 2005 recipient of the Fast Company Social Capitalist Award for their work in using the disciplines of the corporate world to tackle daunting social problems. Ms. Atwood is also a member of Investors Circle (IC), a non-profit national network of angel and institutional investors seeking to achieve financial, social and environmental returns. Carol served as the chair of the research committee which evaluated IC members’ return on investment over the past ten years of angel investing in for -profit social entrepreneurs. Ms. Atwood is an active member of the Social Investment Forum, a national non-profit membership association dedicated to promoting the concept, practice and growth of socially responsible investing, working on the Impact and Messaging Committee. |
