Susan Rae Ross

Susan has worked in the international development arena for the past decade, with experience in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. She worked for United States Agency for International Development in Nigeria, Eritrea, and Washington, DC. In 1996, she moved to CARE International where she was the Asia Regional Technical Advisor based in the Philippines. Since 2001 Susan was the director of CARE’s global reproductive health program that supported over 70 projects in 23 countries. She has written several technical manuals in this area and has extensive contacts with the international NGO and donor community including WHO, UNAIDS, and bi-lateral donors.

Susan oversaw several projects that were in collaboration with corporations, including work with:

  • Mobile and Chevron in Nigeria to improve family planning services;
  • Tata Steel in India to enhance child survival efforts; and
  • garment factories in Cambodia that supply products to Levis and Gap.

In 2001 Susan received an MBA where she began to focus on corporate social responsibility. In April 2003 she left her position at CARE to pursue work in CSR. In the past few months she has consulted with:

  • Deloitte and Touche to develop a module outlining ways to engage the business sector in a multi-stakeholder response to HIV/AIDS
  • CARE India to conduct a review of their corporate partnerships with Tata Steel and the Federated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Susan holds a joint degree in business administration: a Master’s in Management from Purdue University and Master’s in Business Administration from Tilburg University in the Netherlands. She also has a Master’s in Public Health from University of Illinois in Chicago and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Plattsburg State University.
